Two projects in active development
Every project we take into development has cleared the same threshold: community tenure security, ecological integrity, and a credible pathway to a recognised certification standard. Mnazi Bay is our proof of concept, funded and in readiness-phase execution. Kunduchi Eco Park is the first expansion of the portfolio.
Flagship Project
Mnazi Bay Blue Carbon Programme
Mnazi Bay operates inside the Mnazi Bay-Ruvuma Estuary Marine Park (MBREMP), covering approximately 4,030 hectares of coastal mangrove across 15 villages in Mtwara Rural District, southern Tanzania. It is the project on which Kaboni Yetu's full cycle (community governance, MRV, dual-standard certification) is being executed and validated.
The programme is pursuing dual certification under NCMC and Plan Vivo. Readiness-phase funding is confirmed through ORRAA and the UK Blue Planet Fund. Community engagement and ecological and MRV delivery are carried out under formal agreement with Action for Ocean (AFO), which holds established field presence across the Mtwara seascape.
The governance architecture and certification pathway developed at Mnazi Bay form the replicable template for future Kaboni Yetu projects.
Readiness-Phase Timeline
From FPIC to certification submissions
Completion of the readiness phase delivers documented governance compacts with all 15 communities, an operational MRV system, and complete certification submissions to NCMC and Plan Vivo, positioning Kaboni Yetu for first credit issuance following independent verification.
Second Project
Kunduchi Eco Park
Kunduchi Eco Park extends the portfolio into a multi-revenue coastal enterprise model with direct access to Dar es Salaam's tourism and urban market base: managed coastal habitats structured for revenue from eco-tourism, biodiversity credits, nature-based products, and carbon pathways.
It is a deliberate test of different conditions from Mnazi Bay, not a replication of it: a peri-urban coastal context alongside the community-managed rural seascape model at MBREMP. In active feasibility and design development; tenure arrangements, certification pathways, and the enterprise model will be published as the project matures.

How We Source Projects
Three non-negotiable criteria
Community Tenure Clarity
The communities stewarding the ecosystem must hold clear, documented rights and a governance route to consent, benefit-sharing, and long-term participation.
Ecological Integrity
The target habitat must be ecologically intact enough, or restorable enough, to support a credible carbon and co-benefit case under scrutiny.
Credible Certification Pathway
There must be a realistic route to at least one recognised standard. Sites that satisfy all three conditions enter a structured feasibility process before any development commitment.
Geographic scope: coastal Tanzania and the wider Western Indian Ocean. The sourcing pipeline is active; future projects will be published when they reach confirmed feasibility.
