Pre-Certification Readiness Phase

Blue Carbon & Nature Finance · Tanzania

The value in Tanzania's coastal carbon, brought to market

Kaboni Yetu means "our carbon" in Swahili, and the word our carries the thesis. The coastal communities who steward Tanzania's mangroves are the rightful claimants of the value those ecosystems hold. Kaboni Yetu Limited is the company built to make that claim commercially real: originating, certifying, structuring, and commercialising high-integrity coastal carbon assets across the Western Indian Ocean.

Credit Origination

We identify coastal ecosystems with community tenure clarity and ecological integrity, then build the path to a verified, market-ready credit: baseline data, project design, certification coordination, and revenue administration under certified benefit-sharing.

Certification & MRV Coordination

We run the full certification-readiness process: FPIC, baseline establishment, methodology selection, verification-body engagement, and monitoring-system commissioning. At Mnazi Bay this is dual-track: Plan Vivo and Tanzania's NCMC.

ERPA Structuring & Offtake

Kaboni Yetu leads buyer engagement and emission-reduction purchase agreement negotiation, targeting corporate buyers of high-integrity beyond-value-chain credits, CORSIA-eligible aviation buyers, and impact-first institutional purchasers.

Portfolio Development

A diversified pipeline of coastal carbon and nature-based enterprise assets. Kunduchi Eco Park, near Dar es Salaam, is in early feasibility, testing eco-tourism, biodiversity credits, and nature-based products alongside carbon.

How the model works

Mnazi Bay Blue Carbon Programme

The Mnazi Bay-Ruvuma Estuary Marine Park (MBREMP) in Mtwara Region holds one of the Western Indian Ocean's most intact mangrove seascapes. It is Kaboni Yetu's first flagship proof of concept: the project on which the community governance model, certification methodology, and MRV system are being built and validated.

The programme draws on three years of pre-commercial development across 15 coastal villages: carbon sampling, socio-economic assessments, legal and policy analysis under Tanzania's GN 636 (2022), and governance diagnostics. Field delivery is carried out under formal agreement by Action for Ocean (AFO), Kaboni Yetu's founding conservation partner.

Project Stage Readiness Phase

Kunduchi Eco Park, Dar es Salaam

Kunduchi Eco Park extends the portfolio into a multi-revenue coastal enterprise model with direct access to Dar es Salaam's tourism and urban market base: managed coastal habitats structured for revenue from eco-tourism, biodiversity credits, nature-based products, and carbon pathways. A deliberate test of different conditions from Mnazi Bay, not a replication of it.

The project is in active feasibility and design development. Tenure arrangements, certification pathways, and the enterprise model will be published as the project matures.

Credits built to withstand scrutiny

Plan Vivo Foundation

The global standard for community-based carbon and ecosystem-service markets. Requires demonstrable community consent, binding benefit-sharing, and community-verified ecological monitoring. Registration is being pursued, not yet achieved.

National Carbon Monitoring Centre

Tanzania's national registry and MRV authority under GN 636 (2022). Registration and MRV compliance are prerequisites for lawful credit origination from Tanzanian carbon pools.

MBREMP Co-Management

All flagship activity operates within the marine park's governance structure. Under GN 636 Regulation 34(3)(d), MBREMP sits in a defined regulatory category for coastal and marine carbon projects.

High-Quality Blue Carbon Principles

ORRAA's HQBC principles (permanence, leakage management, additionality, community equity) are applied as project design conditions, not post-hoc claims.

Engage before the credit pipeline opens

Three years of pre-commercial evidence. A regulated two-entity structure. A defined path to dual certification. Buyers, investors, and technical partners are engaging now, during the readiness phase.
